Using in-vitro models, the changes in concentrations of antibiotics after administration, e.g. in the human plasma, can be simulated (pharmacokinetics, PK). These simulations are then used to determine the influence of the substance in killing the microorganism (pharmacodynamics, PD). The results of such PK and PD investigations provide pharmaceutical companies with important information for the further development of the new substance.
